Exercise Joint Endeavour puts two years of JESIP principles into practice

"The culmination of two years' work across all emergency services," is how Merseyside Police's Assistant Chief Constable Darren Martland described Exercise Joint Endeavour, and the scale of response required to tackle an incident comprising a commuter train, exploding gas mains and 200 casualties was a true test of 'golden hour' interoperability. This is the function that the Joint Emergency Services Interoperability Programme (JESIP) was set up to enhance in light of public inquiries into the London bombings in 2005 and the Derek Bird shootings in Cumbria in 2010, which found that although the emergency services worked well independently, they did not work together as well.
