Using mathematics to model the Future Fire and Rescue Service

The government's austerity programme has seen dramatic reductions in the Fire and Rescue Service across the United Kingdom. Those who argue that some of these reductions have been created by the huge success the Fire and Rescue Service has enjoyed as a result of its fire prevention work make a good case. It is, of course, ironic that the results of success should appear to be a penalty with funding being reduced.
