A taste of things to come

The Office of the Deputy prime Minister has funded much essential fire research over recent years, with many projects due for completion in 2004. Anna Hayes reports. The fire Service College Research Event, held in November 2003, offered two days of presentations, poster displays and discussions on research projects being undertaken within the UK fire community. Conference sessions considered aspects of management, including behavioural approaches and stress management; information, education and training; and arson, fire investigation and fire safety. But, in the current climate of reform, it was the session on the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister's (ODPM's) programme of research that held the greatest interest.
