On 10 December 2004 a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the New Zealand Fire Service and the New Zealand Branch of the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE). The MOU, which vows to jointly promote, encourage and improve fire extinction, fire prevention and fire engineering, officially cements the relationship between the two organisations. The MOU is more than just a signed piece of paper it is, in part, a symbol of how far the New Zealand Branch of the IFE has come in its 75-year history.
