It was my distinct honour and privilege as International President of the Institution of Fire Engineers to welcome more than 500 attendees to the Inaugural IFE international Branch Meet 2004, held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 4-6 October, This historic IFE conference and exhibition marked the first occasion at which the Institution's worldwide branches had been brought together outside the Annual General Meeting. The conference's theme, Multi directional approach towards integrated fire and safety solutions, is extremely pertinent to our current world situation. The topics presented at the conference continue to reflect the changes, not only in the Institution and the profession, but also in the world at large. The conference provided attendees with the opportunity to focus on the broad based qualifications and experience of the Institution's membership and the ability to share solutions to common problems through the IFE international network.
