Inthe november 2011 issue of FRM, SPTechnical Research Institute of Sweden demonstrated the benefits of installing fire extinguishing systems to engines on these vehicles. The Institute has now collected new statistics, which show that around 1% of all buses catch fire each year. This incurs large losses to carrier and insurance companies. Though loss of life from bus fires is relatively uncommon, there are examples of disastrous bus fires in recent years, which include: Kothokota, India 2013 (44 fatalities) 1.Lwengo, Uganda 2012 (30 fatalities) 2.Yobe, Nigeria 2011 (18 fatalities) 3.Wuxi, China, 2010 (24 fatalities) 4.Uttar Pradesh, India, 2008 (63 fatalities) Hannover, Germany, 2008 (20 fatalities) 5.Wilmer, USA, 2005 (23 fatalities).
