CO detector review

The government is to look into making it mandatory for landlords to install carbon monoxide (CO) alarms inside rented domestic properties. The move, which forms part of a wider review into the safety of tenants, has been welcomed by MPs, as at least 50 people die in the UK each year from CO poisoning. Clive Betts chaired a Communities and Local Government Committee that earlier this year recommended the installation of CO alarms in all rented accommodation. He said: 'I am pleased the government is listening to the Committee's concerns about the dangers of CO. Much more must be done to tackle the threat of the silent killer. CO detectors are inexpensive and save lives.
