Fire leglsl ation 1958 - 1998 Recollections of a Fire Officer

In the same year as the 1989 Fire Precautions (Factories, Offices, Shops and Railway Premises) Order, there were two other documents which were to have far reaching effects upon the fire legislative scene. These were two EC Health and Safety Directives entitled: the "Framework" Directive 89/391 EEC and the "Workplace" Directive 89/654 EEC. The directives obliged member states to make laws implementing the requirements contained within them which would be measures to encourage improvement in the health and safety of workers at work, and such laws were intended to be in place by 31st December 1992.
