Purbach is a town at the reed shore of lake Neusiedler (south east of Vienna). It is a very shallow steppe lake also ealled 'The Sea of the Viennese' where many holiday activities like sailing and surfing take place ― but summer thunderstorms and strong winds can create the famous 'lake Neusiedler wave pattern' which is a short, steep, wave where, in the trough, the muddy bottom of the lake is exposed as the average depth of the lake is only 70-90 cm.
