Innovative Repair of Hollow Fiber Membranes

For many years, filter manufacturers have used UV light curing adhesives for hollow fiber repair, but this method has a number of limitations, including light exposure (curing in shadowed areas) and required capital equipment for high intensity UV curing. An innovative technology developed by Henkel Corporation uses visible light curing adhesives, which penetrate through opaque hollow fibers to provide an immediate cure. This instant repair solution eliminates work in process delays, reduces processing costs by minimizing the amount of adhesive used, and can be applied using inexpensive LED light cure equipment. Visible light cure technology also of-I fers significant safety benefits over UV technology for this application. Hollow fiber membrane technology is used in a wide variety of micro, ultra and nano filtration applications. The water treatment industry is seeing a strong emergence of this design strategy as countries continue to grapple with the global issues of water scarcity and recycling.
