Italian state-owned infrastructure agency Infratel approved the award of the first seven lots of the tender to bring high-speed fiber services at download speeds of up to 1Gbps to thousands of schools all over Italy. The European Commission has already said the initiative met EU state aid rules in that the schools that will benefit are in areas with insufficient connectivity. The Plan envisions the connection of approximately 34,000 schools throughout the country. The tender was divided into seven lots for a total amount of approx. EUR 274 divided as follows: Lot 1 (Liguria and Piedmont), Lot 2 (Lombardy), Lot 3 (Lazio and Sardinia), Lot 4 (Campania and Basilicata), Lot 5 (Calabria and Sicily), Lot 6 (Tuscany and Veneto) and Lot 7 (Marche, Abruzzo, Molise, Puglia).
