The order book for dry bulk carriers has increased gradually since 2002. In line with the ever-increasing freight rates this year the newbuilding contracting has really gone through the roof. Today, there are over 1700 dry bulk vessels above 10,000 dwt on order, totaling about 155 million dwt.rnThe dry bulk order book today makes up about 40% of the existing fleet, a number that seems to be increasing each month this year. At the end of January the order book was "only" 20% of the existing fleet.
