A One2three 24m catamaran built by Aluminium Boats Australia, Sea World Whale Watch, has entered service with Whale Watch Australia in Gold Coast, Australia. The project is the first of three that the designer and builder are working on this year. Currently nearing completion at Aluminium Boats Australia's yard in Brisbane is a One2three 30m catamaran for Sun Ferries and this will be followed by another whale watching vessel, a One2three 30m catamaran ordered by Bass & Flinders Cruises. Sea World Whale Watch was built to Australian USL Class 1C 30 nautical miles 125 passengers and ID sheltered waters 160 passengers requirements. Two MTU 8V 2000 M72 engines, rated at 720 kW at 2,250 rpm, drive fixed pitch propellers via Twin Disc MGX 6599 SC QuickShift gearboxes. During full load trials, the vessel achieved a speed of over 27 knots. The operator reports, "The special keel design of our vessel protects whales from harm and our engines exceed international emission standards while producing minimal underwater noise. Vessel toilet and grey water waste is never allowed to pollute the ocean."
