Austal has released a preliminary specification for the first Joint High Speed Vessel to be built at its Mobile, Alabama, yard for the United States Navy. The company describes the hull form as a "round bilge, bulbous bow catamaran".rnThe vessel platform is marginally larger than that of WestPac Express, the Austal Auto Express 101 catamaran leased by the US Marines since 2001.rnThe JHSV mission bay covers an area of 1,863 sq.m and has a clear height of 4.75m. Turning diameter is 26.2m and arn45° slewing articulated quarter ramp will be installed aft on the starboard side of the vessel.
