Sub-zero temperatures have been the norm in North America, Northern Europe and Asia this winter. In Europe, the chill drifted as far south as Greece and Turkey. Norway had its deepest persistent snowfalls for twelve years and spring is only just starting to spring. This is a global phenomenon, as spring also arrived late in the Southern Hemisphere. But when the hot weather arrived in Australia, it did so with a bang, with temperatures up to 40℃. Temperatures in Moscow are currently bumping along the bottom and are forecast to hover around freezing well into April. This may be of academic interest to most people but it is important to the commodities markets and to shipping.
