摘要

Peter Cremers, CEO of Anglo-Eastern, kicks off his list of significant industry changes with his belief that the public now has "zero tolerance on pollution of the sea". Likewise the regulators, who now closely monitor the industry and hold managers and senior officers personally liable for any pollution. "There is no room for accidents anymore," says Cremers. There is even less tolerance now because of the "enormous increase in traffic, number and size of vessels." Technological development has created unforgiving machinery. Optimum designs have smaller margins for error, while, at the same time, longer stand times between overhauls give engineers fewer opportunities to practice their skills.
