Seaspan Seeks Funds Injection

When Seaspan Corporation, the US-listed container vessel provider, published its third quarter interims in the autumn, the management announced the company would need to raise significant amounts of new equity over the coming three years. Given the state of the capital markets, they also said ways would have to be found to avoid diluting shareholdings' equity too much. Last week, they found a solution.rnSeaspan will need a lot of money in the years to come. At the end of October its orderbook comprised 36 ships with a combined value of $2.2Bn; since then it has taken delivery of one newbuilding. The company's management estimated that it needs to raise $900M in fresh equity over the next 32 months to keep the balance sheet in shape.
