Maersk's big order is a big problem

This week, the Round Table of international shipping associations is launching a campaign to Save Our Seafarers. We are encouraged to write to our Members of Parliament, congress, councils and committees to encourage them to do something about piracy. But nowhere in the Round Table's press statement is there any suggestion that armed guards could make a difference. It's a one-dimensional plea that smacks of discussions around a (possibly) round table. If readers are tempted to believe that all other issues have been swept aside while piracy is dealt with, the Maersk Line order for mega box ships provides cause to think again.
