Peel Ports believes 2015 will be an important year for the company as it aims to launch its new Liverpool 2 container terminal in time to reap the benefits of both the completion of an enlarged Panama Canal and the imposition of stricter ship emission controls in north Europe - but crucially not in the Irish Sea. The possible benefits to Liverpool are not lost on Ross Thompson, commercial director at Peel Ports, which owns three other ports in Liverpool's trading region. He has been in early discussions with the region's ro-ro operators regarding the implications of the emission control areas (ECAs).
