East African LNG projects eye burgeoning Asian demand

Mozambique and Tanzania may be latecomers to Africa's liquefied natural gas (LNG) game, but they are in a good position to capture fast-growing demand in Asia. After making gas discoveries in Mozambique's offshore Rovuma Basin in 2010, both US oil and gas company Anadarko and Italian oil major Eni began developing LNG export projects. Anadarko is the lead operator for Prosperidade LNG with a 26.5% share in the upstream and liquefaction assets. The project is expected to have three production units, each with a capacity of 6 million tonnes per annum (tpa).
