Lloyd Werft Wins Tui Bid

Germany's Lloyd Werft shipyard has secured the contract to convert Celebrity Cruises' Galaxy into the debut vessel for TUI Cruises, a joint venture between German travel and shipping company TUI and Royal Caribbean.Total investment in the conversion will be €50M ($63M). The project begins in mid-March 2009 and the refitted vessel will be christened on 15 May. The conversion will involve numerous partners, encompass "the entire shipyard infrastructure"and be completed in just 38 days. Following conversion, Galaxy will have 974 staterooms, including 430 with balconies. Interior public spaces including the pool deck and casino will be the focus of major revamps.
