Compact gas generator

A new type of inert gas generator (IGG) has been launched by UK-based Coldharbour Marine. The patented third-generation IGG has been designed for use on ships with the aim of reducing the risk of explosions in cargo tanks and for other applications such as ballast water treatment. Coldharbour claims that its new technology incorporates several major advances over older IGG systems in both burner and quench scrubber design. As a result, it says, the new unit is safer, cleaner, lower-maintenance and simpler to operate. It is capable of operating at 0.5% or lower residual O_2 levels while maintaining zero soot output.
