Dole pens new reefer boxships

US-based refrigerated cargo vessel operator Dole Ocean Cargo Express has placed its first newbuilding order for 16 years following the contracting of three fully cellular reefer containerships at a South Korean shipyard. The l,540teu capacity ships have been ordered from Hyundai Mipo Dockyard at a price of around $55m per vessel with delivery between the fourth quarter of 2015 and the second quarter of 2016. They will have a length overall of 190m, a beam of 30.4m, and a hull depth of 17 m. Details about their machinery installation were not known as Solutions went to press; however, it is understood that the newbuildings will operate at a service speed of 19.5kt.
