China Cosco Holdings (CCHC) has ordered five large container ships with compatriot Shanghai Jiangnan Changxing Shipbuilding at a total cost of $618M. Delivery of the 14,500teu vessels is scheduled for 2017 and 2018. The order was originally for 14,000teu vessels but, after design refinements, CCHC discovered they would be able to carry an additional 500 boxes. In addition, CCHC has placed orders for six Kamsarmaxes and four Newcastlemaxes at Chengxi Shipyard and Shanghai Waigao-qiao Shipbuilding, respectively.
