Japanese shipbuilder Tsuneishi has confirmed orders to build a number of 38,300 dwt bulk carriers. The ships, to be built based on Tsuneishi's newly developed design, will be constructed at the shipbuilder's Cebu yard. Tsuneishi, led by Kenji Kawano, said this was the first order of the TESS38 design but would not reveal the customer's identity or the number of ships ordered when contacted by IHS Maritime. The shipbuilder began working on the TESS38 design in November 2014. It is based on the existing TESS35, but with its length extended by 3 m to 180 m. This was to increase deadweight by 3,000 tonnes and thereby enhance transport efficiency.
