Economics Of Ecosystems And Biodiversity

The European Commission launched, on 2 October, a call for contributions for the second phase of the international study 'Economics of ecosystems and biodiversity' (EEB). This initiative was launched following a discussion of environment ministers from the G8+5, organised in Potsdam in March 2007, to draw attention to the global economic benefits of biodiversity and the cost of the loss and degradation of ecosystems. The results of the Potsdam initiative's first phase were presented in the form of an intermediary report, in the ministerial session of the Conference of Parties to the Convention of Biological Diversity (CBD - COP 9), in May 2008 in Bonn. The final report will be presented during the COP 10, which will take place in Nagoya (Japan) in October 2010.
