The European Investment Bank is lending € 135 million to support the construction of eight hydroelectric power plants in southeast Turkey. The project promoter is Enerjisa Enerji UEretim A.S, a joint venture between Haci Omer Sabanci Holding A.S and OEsterreichische Elektrizitaetswirtschafts AG. The eight plants make up part of a wider €1.4 billion programme to build ten hydroelectric plants and a gas-fired power station. The EIB funding, which concerns only the renewable energy aspects of Enerjisa's project, complements the finance facilities arranged by International Finance Corporation, Akbank and WestLB.
