Paris suggests 'significant improvements' to legislation

During the summer, France's EU Presidency submitted a document of some 15 pages that aims to prepare the ground for the working group on GMOs, which meets on 5 and 24 September to propose improvements to EU legislation. According to Paris, these changes must be "significant". France is putting forward five issues for consideration: strengthening environmental assessment, taking socio-economic criteria into account for authorisations, improving the way in which expertise is used, setting European labelling thresholds for seed and protecting certain fragile territories.
