Presidency Secures Two Political Agreements

The Slovenian EU Presidency will be able to fully conclude its fisheries dossier since after obtaining a unanimous agreement on the illegal fishing regulation (see page 1), it continued its string of successes by obtaining, on 24 June in Luxembourg, two political agreements: the first on the regulation on authorisation for fishing activities and the second on the protection of vulnerable marine ecosystems. The Council reached a political agreement on a new regulation which harmonises the procedures and obligations on fishing authorisations for all Community ships outside of Community waters and on access for third-country ships to Community waters. In particular, it establishes rules and general conditions to be respected for all transmissions and authorisation requests and define the necessary legal framework for the implementation of a simplified and uniform electronic data transmission.
