While the European Commission will make proposals to member states in late 2008 to help them reduce medical errors and to fight against infections linked with health care, three health professionals' organisations encourage it to take account of the "numerous European and international initiatives" which already exist in this field. If they do not do so, the Commission would risk "diverging from measures already recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and by the Council of Europe," and as a result, "give the impression of a lack of prejudicial coherence to the movement already launched," stresses an open letter addressed to EU Health Commissioner Androulla Vassiliou by the International Society of Drug Bulletins (ISDB), Health Action International (HAI) and the Collectif Europe et Medicament.
