Ecodesign moves to computers and monitors

The ecodesign process' consultation forum will turn to personal computers, monitors and displays (on 9 October) as well as imaging equipment and complex set-top boxes (on 12 October). The process should impose Energy Star requirements as mandatory for computers and monitors. The proposed regulation for desktops, lap-rntops, thin clients and workstations (but not servers) does not include requirements on 'embodied' energy used to make the product, chemical content and recyclability (this also true of the regulation for monitors). The draft regulation should make Energy-Star 4.0 requirements mandatory in 2011. Energy Star 5.0 requirements (adopted recently) would become the new mandatory level in 2013 (2014 for thin clients and workstations).
