Portuguese Socialist Vital Moreira has been elected to head the Committee on International Trade (INTA). Morcira, age 64, is a law professor at Coimbra University and former judge at Portugal's Constitutional Court. He will be assisted by four vice-chairs: Cristiana Muscardini (EPP, Italy, former vice-chair of UEN group), British Conservative Robert Sturdy (ECR, former EPP coordinator on trade), Pawel Zalewski (EPP, Poland) and ecologist Yannick Jadot, former head of Greenpeace in France. The 29-member committee has five French members: Tokia Saifi (author of a report on the textile sector during the previous legislature), Socialists Kader Arif (who worked on the Euromed free trade area) and Harlem Desir, as well as centrist Marielle De Sarnez (ALDE).
