EU exec proposes strategy on dementia

Against the backdrop of the growing "social and economic burden" caused by the increasing incidences of neurodegen-erative diseases in the Union, the European Commission adopted, on 22 July, two proposals on ways to tackle Alzheimer's disease, dementia and other neurodegen-erative conditions. In its communication, the EU executive calls for "coordinated action" in the face of these "shared health and social challenges". Health Commissioner Androulla Vassiliou hopes in particular to improve "early diagnosis, treatment and care" throughout the Union.
