Ombudsman: Commission cannot abandon role of supervision

The European Commission cannot abandon its role of supervision of the free movement of services, according to the European Ombudsman, P. Nikiforos Diamandouros, who asks it to re-assess whether the Austrian ban on wild animals in circuses is proportionate. The ombudsman's decision follows a complaint from the European Circus Association alleging that the Commission did not handle properly its complaint against Austria.
