The EU's member states should step up their efforts to more efficiently tackle cancer in order to reduce the incidence of this severe and life-threatening disease, says a communication adopted by the European Commission on 24 June. The EU executive thus "reinforced" its long-term commitment to the fight against cancer by proposing a 'European partnership for action against cancer', which is to be launched in the autumn of this year. It should focus on actions to "effectively prevent and control cancer across Europe".rnFor now, cancer survival chances vary widely from country to country. Cancer is the second most common cause of death in Europe.
