Agreement in Environment Council's hands

Czech Environment Minister and Council President-in-Office Martin Bursik made a point of noting, on the evening of 15 April, that the involvement of finance ministers in the climate issue does not mean that the issue of the international negotiations can be taken out of the Environment Council's hands. Was his comment a mere burst of adrenalin or was he setting the record straight due to tension between the two Council configurations?rnAfter the final talks between the EU's environment ministers, who met informally in Prague on 14 and 15 April, Bursik declared that "the Council notes that it is the responsibility of the environment ministers to conduct the international climate negotiations". He added: "the finance ministers play an important role because we are negotiating a package that includes mechanisms to assist the developing countries.
