Commission proposes EU adaptation strategy

Whatever emissions reduction measures are implemented, they will not be enough to reverse the tendency and to halt climate change, so it is imperative to put in place adaptation strategies. This is the message addressed to the member states and European citizens by the European Commission in its white paper on adaptation, adopted on 1 April. This is simply stating the obvious, noted Environment Commissioner Stavros Dimas, who insisted on the inescapable nature of the phenomenon, the urgency of adaptation measures and the need for organised, coordinated and early measures at EU level.
