To prevent potential dangers from electromagnetic fields (EMFs), antennas and other devices should be placed at a specific distance from schools and health care institutions. An own-initiative report byrnFrederique Ries (ALDE, Belgium), adopted on 2 April by the European Parliament, also suggests that the public should be better informed on the subject.rnAlthough the EU has set exposure limits for workers in a new directive set to enter into force in 2012, Parliament finds that such measures should also be taken for the populations concerned, nearby residents and users. It calls for dialogue on criteria for the installation of new GSM antennas and high-volt-rnage power lines involving stakeholders, the public powers, military authorities and residents' associations and for such equipment to be kept at a specific distance from schools, day-care centres, retirement homes and health care institutions.
