General fishing opportunities for species managed jointly by the European Union and Norway will be increased by 30% in 2009, although catches for some, like saithe, will be reduced by 15% compared to 2008. After a month of discussions, the European Union and Norway agreed on the management of seven shared fisheries in the North Sea and Northeast Atlantic for 2009. The agreement also introduces enhanced cooperation between the two parties and a number of technical measures to protect fish resources.
