Solar industry ready to co-finance 1.2 bn euro initiative

The European solar and photovoltaic industry says it is ready to co-finance €1,235 million in R&D. Some 40% of that sum, however, would have to come from member states as part of a Solar Europe Industry Initiative (SEII). This initiative was launched on 3 June in Madrid at the Spanish EU Presidency's conference on the Strategic Energy Technology (SET) plan. The solar industry is aiming to achieve a share of 12% solar photovoltaic (PV) supply in the EU's electricity demand by 2020. The solar initiative would help achieve competitiveness in all market segments.
