Building sector concerned about EP vote

The European Parliament's Committee on Internal Market (IMCO) examined, late on 22 November, ahead of the vote (see separate article) the draft regulation amending the 1989 Construction Prod ucts Directive~1. The European Builders Confederation (EBC) condemned the voting intentions of Conservative (EPP) MEPs, which would undermine the interests of SMEs in the sector. Under an agreement reached at first reading in May 2010 in the Council, simplifications were obtained for SMEs for application of the CE marking procedure, which is very costly. However, these simplifica tions would be challenged by an amend ment that deletes the articles introducing them.
