Barroso recounts goals on climate

In a letter addressed to European Council President Hermann Van Rompuy and certain member states, while the Environment Council was meeting in Luxembourg, on 14 October, the European Commission president recounted the EU's principal positions ahead of the United Nations climate change conference in Canciin (29 November-10 December). Barroso stressed that the EU's approach must conform with the European Council's agreement, to carry a common message "to the United Nations from our own summits and other bilateral meetings carried out by the EU's high representative and by Commissioner Connie Hedegaard concerning our strategic partners with regard to climate, which would be used as a reference for member states relating to their own climate policies".
