Automobile manufacturers criticise white paper

The European automotive industry does not look kindly on the white paper on transport, presented on 28 March. This document fails to recognise sufficiently the added value of road transport, argues the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) in its position, made public on 22 June. The ACEA sees it as calling into question the principle of co-modality - an approach based on the use of different modes of transport, without pitting them one against the other - and calls on the Commission to clarify its position in this respect. The Commission introduced the principle of co-modality in 2001 to replace modal shift.
