All timber and products made from or containing wood - including paper - sold on the EU market and coming from Indonesia will now have to bear a certificate of origin and a legal authorisation to export. Jakarta signed, on 4 May, a voluntary partnership agreement within the framework of the EU programme and plan of action FLEGT (Forest Law Enforcement Governance and Trade) to combat illegal timber trade. This means that Jakarta is committing to putting in place, with the EU's help, the instruments of a better governance and control of its entire timber industry, in line with the fight against illegal logging and trading of wood.
