Traffic noise a major cause of illness, says WHO study

Traffic-related noise is linked to the loss of more than one million healthy life years annually due to illness, disabilities or premature death in the Western states of the World Health Organisation's (WHO) European region. Such is the main finding of a study on the impact of illnesses caused by environmental noise published in its first report on the subject by WHO Europe, on 29 March. These data should be taken into consideration in the WHO's future guidelines in the fight against environmental noise, and, it hopes that existing standards will be revised in the EU.
