Report highlights need for substantial R&D investment

On 30 March, Transport Commissioner Siim Kallas, attending the Aeronautics Days 2011 in Madrid, issued a report on the EU's long-temi aviation strategy, developed by a high-level aviation and aeronautics research group established in December 2010. The report - 'Flightpath 2050 - Europe's vision for aviation' - highlights targets that should be research priorities in order to maintain aviation's competitiveness in an environment where new competitors are emerging in Brazil, Canada, China, India and Russia, and to meet the sector's energy and environmental challenges.
