Commission to rethink policy in 2012

The European Commission is finally set, on 8 March, to come forward with its 'Energy efficiency action plan' (EEAP). The document, long overdue, will revise the 2006 action plan. The 2011 EEAP aims to tackle the lack of progress in reaching the 20% energy savings target set for 2020. In drafts of the communication, seen by Europolitics environment, the Commission is promising further assessment ahead of the spring 2012 European Council. If "necessary," officials will then propose the option of setting binding national energy savings targets.
