Greenpeace wants EU to fast-track carbon reduction

Immediate action and a long-term vision for climate protection are more urgent than ever, according to Greenpeace, which urges the European Union to raise its target to a 30% reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2020. The environmental NGO had launched its appeal - and called for support from industry and from the EU's environment ministers - on the eve of the European Commission's 8 March publication of a 'Road map for a low-carbon economy by 2050'. The document points the way to attainment of the Union's 80-95% emissions reduction goal by that date.
