Inland waterways sector needs six bn euro, says INE

Inland Navigation Europe (INE), which promotes inland waterway transport in Europe, estimates that in order to realise its full potential the sector will need at least 20% of the budget the European Commission plans to allocate to the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) for 2014-2020. "Europe must resist the temptation to cut spending on transport infrastructure, particularly inland waterways, whose contribution to environmentally sustainable economic growth is set to expand," says INE in a 'New year message'.
