Gabriel Mato Adrover new chair of PECH committee

On 24 January, Gabriel Mato Adrover (EPP, Spain) was elected chair of the European Parliament's Committee on Fisheries (PECH). He will replace Carmen Fraga Estevez (EPP, Spain), who did not run for the role again as she has been asked to join the new Spanish government. Mato Adrover was born in Madrid in 1961. He represents the Canary Islands and has a law degree; he is a member of Spain's People's Party. He is currently rapporteur for the update of the Programme d'Options Specifiques a l'Eloignement et a l'Insularite (POSEI), which is currently in co-decision with the Council.
